Walls - ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) by Logix
Energy Efficiency
Greenguard certification for Logix Platinum series
This project utilizes the 8" Platinum Insulated Concrete Form by Logix. This form offers substantial insulative values and incredible strength, while offering a 4-hr fire-rating and termite-resistance.  The Platinum forms from Logix are the only ICF to be Greenguard certified.  Logix forms are a very green product that utilize recycled and recyclable materials.  Few products embody "sustainability" like ICF.  Find out more about the benefits and the process by visiting our distributor/installer's website, www.maximumbuildingsystems.com.
Windows and doors in the exterior walls of the house all have glass with low emissivity that reflects infrared and ultraviolet light, and have high dual panes to provide better insulation.
Roof - SIP (Structural Insulated Panel)
Logix Insulated Concrete Forms
Windows & Doors - Low-e Glass
SIPs offer structural integrity and insulation in one.  This house uses a 10" thick panel which has a very high insulative value.
Solar Energy - Photovoltaic Panels
Laminate Solar Panels are applied to the south-facing roof which is pitched at just over 33 degrees to maximize year-round exposure to sunlight.  The 10kW system provides enough power to supply the entire house.  Using Laminate Solar Panels instead of traditional rigid panels is a good way to economically harness solar energy.
A Galvalume finish on the roof reflects much of the sunlight it receives away from the house, lowering the heat gain on the interior.  This helps decrease the energy required to cool the house.text.
Roof - Reflective Metal Roofing (High SRI Value)
Rainwater collection not only helps to reduce the demand on the water supply, it also helps nearly eliminate any stormwater runoff associated with the impervious footprint of the house.
Water Conservation - Rainwater Collection Tanks
Interior
Heating & Cooling - Geothermal Loops
This system takes advantage of the moderate temperatures in the ground to boost efficiency and reduce the operational costs of heating and cooling systems.
Exterior
Landscaping - Xeriscaping
Plants will be used that are indeginous to the region and therefore require little to no water or maintenance.
The house is influenced by the Cracker style, a vernacular which has its history in the south.  One of the defining features of this style is the  wrap-around porch, which in this case shades the house from the harsh light from the west and south, as well as the low morning sun from the east.
Shade - Deep porches shade and cool exterior walls
The house is designed to meet Energy Star requirements which help to lower energy consumption.  For a comprehensive list of the associated benefits of an Energy Star rating to a homeowner, click here.
Saving Energy - Energy Star Rated
Lighting - Natural Lighting
The strategic use of windows allows the interior spaces to be filled with soft, ambient natural light.  This minimizes or eliminates the need for artificial lighting at certain parts of the day.
The paints and finishes used will be low-VOC, contributing to a healthier interior and exterior atmosphere.
Paint - Low VOC
Numerous products used in the house will have recycled content, including the ICF which has recycled polystyrene and polypropylene.
Recycled Material - Products to have recycled content
The trees cleared from the house's location will be processed and used to make the flooring of the house, as well as casework, millwork, and/or furniture.  The species include pine and cherry.
Flooring, Casework, & Furniture - Made from local trees
Construction Waste - Recycling Program
A construction waste management plan will be utilized that will sort the waste generated during construction and recycle it.
Light Fixtures - LED Lighting
Energy-efficient and cooler LED lighting is used throughout the home, saving energy and significantly extending bulb-life.
Stormwater Control - Pervious Driveway
A pervious driveway is an easy way to help rainwater absorb into the soil instead of running off of pervious surfaces like concrete or asphalt and accumulating in low spots, carrying pollution and sedementation which can negatively impact local waterways.
